![]() ![]() The "friction system" is comprised of clutch facings AND transmission fluid there are many friction modifiers that are added to transmission fluid to give you the desired mu-slip characteristic, etc. Transmission hardware and controls is one of my areas and I'm not convinced that's a good idea. I recently joined and have seen this 3X change mentioned multiple times. My question is, should I assume we just got lucky with those two toyotas and get the transmission fluid changed (not flushed, the Honda dealership says they don't even do that) at 92,000 miles, or stay the path and not mess with a transmission that doesn't have issues? We do have two toyota hybrids in the family, (one at almost 250k and one at 225k, both over 10 years old) that never had any transmission fluid changes or flushes and have had no issues thus far.īUT, I've also heard that transmissions that give out after that kind of maintenance were probably dying anyway, and if the transmission is showing signs of issues, then it's dying and a fluid change isn't going to help anyway. ![]() I've heard all the stories, anecdotally and from family members experiences about changing transmission fluids and having the transmission give out shortly after. However, there is no maintenance record of a transmission fluid change so it's long overdue for one. I've driven it for about 6k miles, and it currently has about 92k miles, with no noticeable transmission issues. ![]()
